Coming to Canada
Once you have your Study Permit you will need to make sure that you follow all Canadian rules.
Here are some tips of things that you SHOULD NOT DO.
- If you plan on waiting until the following semester you need to inform the government. It shows that you are a sincere student.
- Do not come to Canada and choose not to study! This is a very big mistake. You will run into a lot of problems if you do not study while in Canada on your study visa. If you get sent out of Canada you may not be able to return for many years.
- It is so important for you to have all of your funds ready in advance. You will have all of your finances ready before your start your program. You will need to have proof of funds when you apply for your study permit. So having funds is such an important thing. If you cannot provide the funds the schools may refuse you from being a registered student.
CANADA NEW STUDY PERMIT PROCEDURE
Announced on the last year, there are new changes to the study permit for International students wanting to study in Canada.
Now officers will issue a study permit for the amount of time required for the first program of study. This would be a prerequisite program such as an ESL (English as a second language) or a French as a second language program.
Before this update you would apply for the study visa with a conditional letter of acceptance from the designated learning institute. This conditional acceptance letter would state that after you have completed the prerequisite. Then the study permit would be issued for the entire time frame for both programs, plus 90 days. The second DLI would also have to be listed on this study permit.
The reason for this change is that there has been a concern that students may not complete the prerequisite (ESL) program but “will continue to hold a valid study permit allowing them to work.”
Now by issuing the study permit for the ESL/ prerequisite program only that will make sure that the compliance reporting is sent to correct college or university. After the student has completed their prerequisite program they will then be able to apply for a new permit. They will need to demonstrate that all requirements for the first program have been satisfied by (Government of Canada).
