The Higher education department of Odisha is planning to introduce short-term certificate courses for development of skills. These courses will be offered to both undergraduate and post graduate students of the state. In accordance to a leading daily, official sources have confirmed that these courses have been proposed to commence in various degree colleges with the help the Indira Gandhi National Open University.
As reported by an IGNOU officer, a presentation regarding the plan has already been created and presented before the higher education secretary Bisshnupada Sethi by the officials of IGNOU. The assistant regional director of Bhubaneswar regional centre of IGNOU, S K Panigrahi confirmed that the University is willing to introduce the short-term certificate courses. These courses will be launched as add-on skills for the students and can be pursued along with the study of other courses in college.
Adding on to this, he confirmed that the teachers will be paid for teaching the designed course material. Also, students will be offered the course materials at the time of taking admission. These certificate courses will not disturb the normal college routine. Special attention has been paid to avoid clash of regular classes with these certificate course classes, and the certificate courses will be conducted on Sundays. The duration of the certificate courses will be six-months, and the fee for the same will range between Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000. Candidates belonging to SC & ST categories, are not required to pay any admission fee.These courses have already been started in Rajasthan by IGNOU, and will shortly be conducted in Odisha too.
