From the year 2018, the series of papers in the CMSE will not contain the general ability paper. The process of examination is simplified as it tests only the technical knowledge of the students in paper 1 and paper 2.

The mode of examination for the paper 1 and paper 2 has been changed from the conventional method to the computer based one with multiple choice questions. The exam will be of two hours and it will be up to the standard of MBBS. The paper 1 will have 120 multiple choice questions in General Medicine and Paediatrics. The paper 2 will have 250 multiple choice questions in Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics and also in the preventive and social medicine.
