IIT [The Indian Institute of Technology] Hyderabad is all set to launch a full-time BTech program in Artificial Intelligence from the academic session commencing 2019, thus becoming the first Indian Institute to offer a BTech program in this field. At the global level, IIT Hyderabad comes third in the list. The initial two are Carnegie Mellon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology [MIT] respectively.
Admissions to IIT Hyderabad’s BTech program in Artificial Intelligence will be based on JEE Advanced and the seat intake will be limited to 20 students. The course would also be open to students pursuing other engineering degrees like mechanical or chemical engineering. The institute currently offers a MTech program in AI-Machine Learning.
In accordance to the Professor UB Desai, Director, IIT H, the idea behind introducing this program is to create a full-fledged ecosystem for AI academics and research at the Institute. This means offering BTech, MTech and other related minor programs in the field.
- IIT Hyderabad’s AI course will impart students a comprehensive training to on smart AI-based technology solutions, thus, making them industry ready.
- The program will have algorithms from the CSE Department, robotics from the ME Department and Signal Processing from the Electrical Engineering Department.
- Students pursuing the program would even be trained on multiple aspects of AI ranging from machine learning to ethical issues.
- The course will lay emphasis on multiple application verticals like- agriculture, healthcare etc and one of the key components of this BTech program will be its ethical impact on areas like privacy, bias, etc.
